Job Description

Hi, we’re Second Genome.

We are a fast-paced, venture-backed biotechnology company developing breakthrough therapeutics through innovative microbiome science.

And we are looking for a Research Associate specializing in Mass Spectrometry to join our Protein Sciences team on a 6 month contract.

You are a highly motivated, resourceful, and detail-oriented Research Associate. You will be focused on target discovery and our PD marker discovery project. You will be responsible for sample preparation and data analysis using state-of-the-art high resolution tandem mass spectrometry.  You are comfortable independently conducting complex technical procedures. As part of the Protein Sciences team, you will work with our cross-functional team of Bioinformatics and Discovery.

How You’ll Impact the Company:

  • You will work independently when given clear expectations, and collaborate with scientists across functions and projects.
  • You will perform liquid chromatographic mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based proteomics experiments
  • You will prepare samples for MS, protein digestion and labeling, and record/update sample status.
  • You will conduct routine maintenance activities and troubleshooting of the mass spectrometer.
  • You will maintain records of experiments and results in a reproducible manner.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • You have hands-on experience with nano-LC, mass spectrometry and analysis.  Experience with Proteome Discoverer software and Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid MS is highly desirable.
  • You are effective in communicating with other team members.
  • You are able to follow and write standard operating procedures, schedule work, analyze data, maintain accurate records, and write reports.
