Job Description

We are looking for a Contract Research Associate for our animal facility.  


You are a reliable team player who is comfortable performing animal care, dosing, and husbandry and are enthusiastic about drug development. In this temporary role, you will play an integral part in the advancement of therapeutics into patients by ensuring studies run smoothly and providing excellent animal care. You will perform study procedures such as dosing, body weight monitoring, tissue dissection and processing. The expected duration of this position is six months on-site at our Brisbane facility. 


How You’ll Impact the Company:


  • You will conduct laboratory procedures including oral, intraperitoneal and intravenous dosing as well as necropsy procedures in compliance with established protocols.
  • You will monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations on a rotating basis within the team.
  • You will perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality, traceability and health of research animals, including: daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; providing appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
  • You will assist in receiving, inspecting and housing animals.
  • You will document experimental data including activities undertaken, observed results and variation from expected data patterns.
  • You will record and prepare data for reports and presentations for therapeutic programs.
  • With guidance from scientific management, you will maintain a technical knowledge and understanding in your assigned area of responsibility.


What You Bring to the Role:


  • You have at least one year of laboratory animal research experience. 
  • You have enthusiasm for learning and contributing to scientific research
  • You have experience with some of the following techniques: 
    =Oral gavage in rodents
    =IV, SQ, IP injection techniques in rodents
    =Blood collection:
       =Tail vein in rodents
         =Cardiac puncture in rodents
         =Necropsy and tissue collection
  • Rodent euthanasia via exsanguination preceded by administration of CO2 or anesthesia; cervical dislocation preceded by administration of CO2 or anesthesia; or, administration of CO2.
  • You have good communication skills and can work well in a team environment toward a common goal.
  • You are comfortable with the physical demands of this role: the need to regularly stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • You are willing and able to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. You may have hours on a sliding workweek (ex: Sunday through Thursday) as needed.
