The Role

GRO Biosciences (GRObio) is hiring a Fermentation & Process Development Technician/Associate to advance the company’s recoded organism technology. Title will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Recoded organisms enable GRObio to generate revolutionary products of unprecedented structural and chemical diversity. With the tools at GRObio, you’ll be able to propose, develop, and implement completely differentiated solutions to longstanding, critical problems.

We're seeking someone with fermentation and process development experience who's interested in learning new things, and having a large impact on the growth of an early-stage company. Regular activities will include running bacterial fermentation processes, maintenance of fermentation systems and adjacent support systems. There is substantial growth opportunity within the company for the capable candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute in diverse ways to the company’s evolving goals
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed research environment
  • Execute fermentation experiments to supply biomass from proprietary bacterial strains as requested by internal customers for various internal projects.
  • Perform automated assays on biomass for delivery to internal customers.
  • Assist in development of automated workflows to support internal projects.
  • Execute automated workflows for screening, analysis, and future workflows in support of internal projects.
  • Upkeep documentation for fermenter systems and associated requests for seamless data delivery.
  • Collaborate with other team members to deliver material in a timely manner.
  • Source, procure, set up, and maintain critical equipment.
  • Diligently record progress in our electronic lab notebook and LIMS systems.
  • Clearly communicate results and recommendations with the team both in-person and online

Qualifications

  • Required experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific or technical field
    • 1 year work experience with bacterial fermentation in an industrial setting
  • Preferred experience
    • Experience with Biocommand fermentation software
    • Familiarity with coding languages (Python, Visual Basic)
    • Familiarity with automation methods and equipment
    • Familiarity with Cell/Molecular Biology techniques and assays
